Community Work Skills

The Community Work Skills course runs for 10 weeks, and is aimed at providing an introduction to community work practice, giving opportunities to learn and expand knowledge and skills. People who attend the course will gain confidence and develop their own potential and effectiveness in their role in the community.

Learners will discuss issues such as:

  • Power and Powerlessness
  • Discrimination
  • Networking
  • Group Development
  • Dealing with Conflict
  • Planning and Evaluation

As well as attending the 3-hour weekly sessions you will need to log approximately 30 hours of work in and around your normal community practice. There will be about 30 hours of home study which will include collating a learning journal and portfolio.

The course is accredited through the Open College Network (OCN) and offers two levels of achievement, Level 1 and Level 2.

When do you start your journey?

Each course runs for 10 hours, split into three sessions of three and a half hours over 3 weeks. Please note that, to achieve accreditation, all 10 hours of each course much be attended.

 

Introduction to Group and Teamwork Communication Skills

Accredited at NOCN (National Open College Network) Entry Level 3

This course will give you the opportunity to understand:

  • Group roles and relationships
  • How to communicate verbally with group members
  • the importance of listening in a group situation
  • the important of co-operation in a group situation
  • how to respond appropriately to praise and criticism

 

Recognising own Skills for Personal Development

Accredited at NOCN Entry Level 3

This course will give you the opportunity to:

  • Develop the ability to make positive decisions
  • recognise and acknowledge strengths and weaknesses
  • investigate ways of self-improvement
  • set personal objectives and make plans for self-improvement
