What are Community Forums?

LCDP has been working with groups across the City of Lincoln for many years, supporting/ them to find ways of addressing community issues and enabling their voices to be heard in the Community Planning Process.

We are committed to supporting new groups, in new areas, to form a Community Forum.

Community Forums are informal meetings where you can:

• Express your views on a range of services provided by public bodies in your area
• Raise issues important to your local area
• Hear about and discuss new policies and plans for the area
• Share ideas on how to improve the area where you live

They:

• Provide an important means for the council to listen, engage and respond to its communities
• Are the means by which local residents can express their views
• Promote good citizenship
• Influence the decision makers

These can take many forms and LCDP is not prescriptive in the way a forum runs, but we do want to give groups the security of knowing that they are working towards providing a voice for the people of their area.

Key Points

Regular Meetings

• Monthly or Quarterly
• Possibly with Sub Groups to address specific issues

Terms of reference or a constitution

• They do not need to a registered charity

Fluid flexible groups

• The group can embrace everyone who comes along

Open membership

• As many people as possible

• Different things are more important in each area,eg traffic congestion and pollution is a real problem in Park Ward whereas it is in Hartsholme

• Forums will consult with the community on issues that are coming from the Local Strategic Partnership and the City Council

• LCDP and the Community Network will keep groups informed as to the development at a strategic level
